Notwithstanding the appeal of wine tasting, visitors to the Aiud area would quickly find there is more to see, try or taste here. And one of the most breath-taking experiences would be a trip to the Aiud Ravine, a geological and botanical reserve located some 15 km off Aiud. In addition to the natural beauty of the landscape, people are often attracted here by the various large caves open for visitation, the ruins of a medieval citadel called Trascau, an interesting looking rock cliff called The Citadel which, according to XIII century records, was once the site of an important stronghold, the church of the Magina monastery and, last but not least, the Rimetea village and its ethnographic museum.

A medieval settlement formed at the former site of a Roman village, Rimetea can now be visited as an open-air museum, due to its rich heritage, spectacularly displayed in things big and small, such as the approximately 200 traditional homes – the oldest of which belongs to a miner and was built in 1668 – the family tombs dug inside of cliffs and used for several generations, the oldest watermill in the area that is still functional, or the drawings still visible on some gates – illustrating ladders, buckets, shovels and such – that indicated how that specific home was prepared to help in case of a fire.
