Checking out “The Woodworking Festival”

Welcome to Alba Iulia, The Other Capital.
Visit the largest citadel in Romania.

The Woodworking Festival (“Ziua Lemnarului”) takes place every year in the middle of August in Horea, Alba, a village in the heartland of the Apuseni Mountains. Artisans from all around the “Moti Land” (“Tara Motilor”) come to Horea to demonstrate their skills. Competitions such as wood carving, climbing trees or hatchet throwing competitions will make it worth your visit.

The event is an important milestone for the “Moti” community of Apuseni (“Moti” are a highlander population, recognized as a distinct ethnographic community in the Transylvanian Western Carpathians, with a centuries-old tradition in woodworking).

Apart from woodworkers, artisans representing various traditional crafts will join the event. The most appreciated creations will be presented and will be available for purchase. While checking out the works, you can enjoy the folkloric music concerts that take place on the open air stage nearby.
